• A younger Dumbledore is portrayed by Harris in Chamber of Secrets and Gambon portrays a younger Dumbledore in Goblet of Fire and Half-Blood Prince. Toby Regbo will portray an even younger Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.
• In the films, Dumbledore has the distinction of being the first character to appear in the movie series, as opposed to Vernon Dursley in the books.
• Both actors who have played the adult Dumbledore have been Irish. In an interview on the DVD of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Gambon mentions that his Irish accent is quite pronounced as Dumbledore, but no one asked him to change it. (The Irish tones of Harris’ accent are less pronounced.)
• In 2007, J.K. Rowling revealed that Dumbledore is homosexual, and harboured romantic feelings for Gellert Grindelwald. No comment was made upon Grindelwald’s sexuality or whether Grindelwald returned his feelings, so the status of the relationship is unknown. Rowling also commented that “this added to Dumbledore’s horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was.” This love was caused by Dumbledore meeting someone “as brilliant as he was.” Only the subtlest of hints can be found in Deathly Hallows relating to this. Reportedly the earliest indication of Dumbledore’s orientation came when Rowling vetoed a line of dialogue in one of the recent movie scripts that would have referenced a romantic involvement with a woman. Rowling explains this further by elaborating on the motivations behind Dumbledore’s flirtation with the idea of wizard domination of Muggles: “He lost his moral compass completely when he fell in love and I think subsequently became very mistrustful of his own judgement in those matters so became quite asexual. He led a celibate and a bookish life.”

• Ron was one of the few characters who was created before J. K. Rowling began writing the series, and whose name never changed from the original drafts.
• In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Professor Horace Slughorn refers to Ron by several names, one of which is Rupert.
• Rowling described Ron’s Patronus as a “really sentimental choice” on her part, since she has a Jack Russell.
• Rowling has also said that if she had a Boggart, hers would likely be the same as Ron’s, as she also dislikes spiders.
• Ron is related to Draco Malfoy distantly; his paternal grandmother was a Black, who are related to the Malfoys through Narcissa’s marriage to Lucius, Draco’s father.
• Rupert Grint says his favourite scene is also the Yule Ball scene in the fourth film, the same as co-star Emma Watson.
• Ron’s least favourite colour is maroon as he said when he received his Christmas jumper from his mother.
